STRIKE AVERTED: Sac City USD workers reach 11th hour TA with management on health and safety standards

Classified workers at Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) have been negotiating with Superintendent Aguilar and the District for months to reach a fair baseline health and safety agreement that will protect students, workers, and the entire school community.

Days before workers were set to participate in an Unfair Labor Practice, however, a marathon mediation session produced a tentative agreement between the two sides just before midnight on Monday, April 19.

It has been heartbreaking to see the recent uptick in anti-Asian racism happening across the nation—and make no mistake, hate and racism are at the root of the violence we’ve seen in recent weeks.

From the Bay Area to Atlanta and beyond, we must be prepared but speak out and take action against hate and violence—but we also need to create space to reflect, mourn, and support one another as we process this horrific violence.

Relive our 2021 Black History Month Celebrations

Last year was bittersweet; there was significant turmoil as well many triumphs. The plight of Black African Americans reached the World’s stage and our local answered the call to fight for justice while stating proudly that ‘Black Lives Matter’.

Our Social and Economic Justice (SEJ) Committee has put together a month-long program to celebrate the history and contributions of Africans Americans through virtual symposiums. Come join us during this time of renewal to celebrate greatness with us, and to nurture a new age of prosperity and hope.

November 3 Endorsements
Make A Difference--Volunteer Now!

Now, just like in every election year, we need to elect candidates and pass measures that will protect those vital services and honor our work. But this year, the stakes are higher than they have ever been.

We understand the importance of winning the economic, racial, environmental, and immigrant justice that we all deserve. That is why we participate in the political process by volunteering and voting for these endorsements to help elect candidates and pass measures that bring us closer to that goal.

Make a difference: Volunteer Now!

It is Election Day! Volunteer to get the vote out locally, and in the battleground state of Nevada– where early voting numbers are lower than expected.

We are asking members to participate in phone banking and other outreach initiatives to help us elect candidates who will fight for us and pass measures that will benefit working families.

Proposition 15 would be a game changer for California’s local community services and schools

For years, the importance of a robust social safety net and the need for the critical public services like those provided by members of our union has become more clear than ever.

We are on the frontlines in our communities and know the importance of protecting public services in the face of projected budget shortfalls. That is why it is so important for us to do everything in our power before November to pass Proposition 15, also known as Schools and Communities First.

2020 November 3 Endorsements

The November 3 elections are fast approaching. As with any election year, the results will have a real impact on SEIU 1021 members, the services we provide, and the communities where we live, work, and raise our families. That’s why our members choose to endorse candidates in certain races each election year.

As part of this process, SEIU 1021 members participate in a democratic process where we interview and vet candidates, examine their positions on the issues, and discuss how those candidates will help working families if elected.
