SCUSD Board Action – April 30, 2026
TELL THE BOARD DON'T BALANCE THE BUDGET ON OUR BACKS

TELL THE BOARD NO UNNECESSARY CUTS!

WHEN: Thursday, April 30th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

WHERE: 5735 47th Ave., Sacramento, CA 95824 (Serna Center)

WHAT: We will rally outside the Serna Center starting at 5 pm. Show up, wear purple, and make your voices heard!

SEIU 1021 SCUSD education members,

It has been almost a month since layoff notices were issued to our members, including every single person at the Serna Center, and the District has still not provided a clear plan for how departments will be reorganized or how the work will get done next school year. We also have no clear idea of what cuts can be made that will actually balance the District’s budget. Expenses for contractors have nearly tripled, and books and supplies have doubled since the start of the school year, according to the latest figures presented by the District’s CBO. These numbers don’t add up, and they clearly show that classified employees aren’t responsible for the District’s budget problems. The District needs an accurate picture of what the fiscal deficit is, and the Board needs to find a way to get it if the interim CBO can’t provide it.

As some of the lowest-paid people in the District, our members should not have to bear the brunt of any cuts that are needed to balance the budget. If departments need to be consolidated, the work our members do will still need to be done. There is no class without classified, and we need to make sure the District knows that.

Join fellow members at the Serna Center on April 30 and let’s tell the District:

  • No cuts if they won’t help the budget situation!
  • Audit your books so we know what needs to change!
  • No Serna Center reorganization until we have a chance to review it!
