SACRAMENTO, CA – SEIU Local 1021 facility and maintenance workers, campus monitors, nutrition service workers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and clerical staff working for Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) voted this week to approve a strong new contract. After nearly a year of bargaining, SEIU 1021 ratified a contract that delivers both retroactive wage increases and strengthened workplace protections with over a 99% ‘yes’ vote from members.
“Despite ongoing financial pressures facing the District, we still secured meaningful gains for SEIU 1021 members in Sacramento City Unified,” said Karla Faucett, chapter president, bargaining chair, and professional development specialist for SCUSD. “This contract reflects the strength and persistence of our membership, whose support carried our effort through this process.”
Highlights in the new contract include a 2% annual wage increase for both years of the contract, retroactive to July 1, 2025, along with expanded paid training opportunities for all classifications and additional ongoing training for instructional aides during student non-contact time. It also establishes new protections for freedom of political expression, simplifies seniority calculations for layoffs, and creates improved pathways for food service workers to increase their contracted hours.
