SEIU 1021 SCUSD education members,

The Board is voting on the final reorganization plan for the Serna Center on May 21 and we need to show up and make sure that our jobs are protected. From what was presented to the Board May 7, it is obvious that the new plan is still too top-heavy to meet our students’ needs, and eliminates essential classified positions.

They are trying to balance the budget on our backs; this is our last chance to fight to keep our jobs for next school year. We make a stand now, or the district will continue to cut our members to save money, now and in the future.

Meanwhile, we are still seeing contractor costs soar and disproportionate spending on books and supplies, which indicates that classified workers are not the cause of this crisis.

WE know this, but does Chief Business Officer Lisa Grant-Dawson, who moves from one district to another, leaving a mess in her wake everywhere she goes? Are we going to let her commit the same harm in Sacramento? No.

As some of the lowest-paid employees, we should not bear the brunt of these cuts. We must stand together, get loud, and demand action. TELL THE BOARD NO UNNECESSARY CUTS!

Join fellow members at the Serna Center on May 21 and let’s tell the District:

  • No cuts if they won’t help the budget situation!
  • Audit your books so we know what needs to change!
  • No Serna Center reorganization until we have a chance to review it!
