Alameda Health System workers fight for healthcare
From Eastmont Town Center to Sacramento and beyond
Last Thursday, May 21, was a big day for public health as SEIU 1021 members from Alameda Health System and Alameda County joined community members across the state to call for funding for healthcare.
In Sacramento, members from Alameda Health System called on the state assembly to prioritize healthcare and workers. Our state budget needs to put things like healthcare, food assistance, and behavioral health services first over giveaways for profitable corporations that are not paying their fair share.
Help Us STOP Management’s Games
Come to the Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday, June 3, at 4 p.m. at Highland Hospital Cafeteria
AHS is telling three different stories in three different places. They say one thing in our ad hoc committee, another thing at the bargaining table, and a third thing to the Trustees.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Come to the Board of Trustees meeting to tell management to STOP THE GAMES. If we need to make cuts, CHOP FROM THE TOP!
SEIU 1021 members are fighting layoffs across the East Bay
Last Wednesday, the Alameda Health System Board of Trustees voted to accept the direction of the Board of Supervisors and defer all layoffs until June 30, the end of the fiscal year! This vote by the Trustees brings to a successful conclusion the fight SEIU 1021 members have been waging for months, ever since the county’s safety-net healthcare system began plans to issue layoff notices on Christmas Eve.
Beilenson Hearing Update
We Did Great and Are Very Close To Fighting Off These Layoffs
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, we protested outside the County’s administration building, then packed their chambers for the Beilenson Hearing.
Members lay on gurneys to illustrate the way the layoffs are overburdening our emergency rooms, and we heard from speakers like SEIU 1021 President Theresa Rutherford, SEIU 1021 Vice President for the East Bay and AHS worker Derrick Boutte.
Hundreds rally against Alameda Health System layoffs
On a rainy Wednesday, hundreds of SEIU 1021 members from across Alameda Health System (AHS) rallied outside Wilma Chan Highland Hospital to fight back against layoffs. The same day, February 11, AHS management posted a 59-page document detailing the layoffs they intend to make across the county’s safety-net healthcare system. The cuts include:
“These cuts won’t heal!”
