Beilenson Hearing Update
We Did Great and Are Very Close To Fighting Off These Layoffs

Article

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, we protested outside the County’s administration building, then packed their chambers for the Beilenson Hearing.

Members lay on gurneys to illustrate the way the layoffs are overburdening our emergency rooms, and we heard from speakers like SEIU 1021 President Theresa Rutherford, SEIU 1021 Vice President for the East Bay and AHS worker Derrick Boutte.

At the Beilenson Hearing, we testified for hours, and the Board of Supervisors heard us loud and clear that these layoffs need to be stopped. At 9:30, the Board stopped the hearing. They said they are planning to allocate money to AHS to delay the layoffs and then develop a working group to address the financial concerns and collaboratively plan for the future.

They will discuss these plans officially on Tuesday, March 3, at 2 p.m. We need members to show up to the hearing to keep the pressure on the Board of Supervisors, especially if your program is under attack.
