Good Trouble Lives On: Rally to defend democracy and honor John Lewis on July 17
We are calling on SEIU 1021 members, friends, family, and community members to stand with us for a powerful day of action: Good Trouble Lives On, taking place Thursday, July 17, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the West Steps of the California State Capitol in Sacramento and at Oscar Grant (Frank Ogawa) Plaza in Oakland.
This national day of action honors the legacy of Congressman John Lewis and responds to the growing threats to our civil and human rights. From voter suppression efforts like the SAVE Act to attempts to criminalize protest, the Trump administration is leading a dangerous rollback of hard-won freedoms. But we know that in this country, the power belongs with the people, and together, we will show up to defend that truth.
Congressman Lewis famously said, “Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble.” Now is the time to answer that call. This event is not just a protest; it is a continuation of the civil rights movement, a stand for democracy, and a reminder that the fight for justice is far from over.”
Your voice and your presence matter. As union members and advocates for working people, we must show solidarity in the face of injustice. Let’s keep the legacy of Good Trouble alive.
This is an action rooted in dignity, peace, and purpose. All participants are expected to de-escalate and remain focused on our shared values.
