On Friday, January 30, SEIU 1021 members from across the East Bay gathered together to celebrate the hard-won victories we achieved together in 2025 and prepare for the battles to come. As SEIU 1021 Vice President for the East Bay Derrick Boutte said, “Tonight is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate what we have accomplished together in 2025.”

A major part of the celebration was recognizing various chapters for their hard work and accomplishments. Boutte said, “These chapters didn’t just meet challenges; they organized, mobilized, and won. Each chapter shows what’s possible when members lead and stand together.”

The chapters being recognized included:

  • City of Richmond: displayed strategic leadership through political action to secure a historic contract
  • City of Oakland: flexed member-driven political power that elected the pro-worker candidate Barbara Lee mayor and prevented layoffs
  • Oakland Unified School District: built union power by raising membership density from 65% to 81% over their last contract campaign
  • Planned Parenthood of Northern California: this recently organized chapter racked up an exceptional first-contract victory with rapid growth to over 81% membership density
  • Superior Court of Alameda County: went on a two-day strike that defeated concessions and delivered big wins for members
  • BART: has a wonderful model New Employee Orientation (NEO) program that achieved a 93% rate of new hires becoming SEIU 1021 members, with a 51% Committee on Political Education (COPE) membership rate
  • Alameda Health System: their commitment to member-to-member organizing has built a 90% membership density, protecting jobs and building union power
  • East Bay Innovations: built exceptional power through teamwork, collaboration, and accountability, which demonstrates the real power of organized workers
  • Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District: has exceptional leadership with 100% membership density, which allowed them to elect a labor-friendly Board of Supervisors in the county
