Tell the SF City College Board of Trustees to staff up for recycling and zero-waste at SF City College
Sign the petition and show your support!
Recycling bins are overflowing, and staff are stretched to the limit. San Francisco City College students deserve clean campuses and a greener future. The CCSF Board has failed to ensure that its initial promise to fully staff their critical climate justice initiative is fulfilled.
Please sign the petition to demand critical staffing for recycling and zero-waste at San Francisco City College and ensure a safe, sustainable, and accountable institution for our students, community, environment, and future!
WHAT’S HAPPENING?
- Only 3 recycling staff for 6 campuses! They are supposed to have 13 staff by now.
- A staff member was injured due to unsafe, understaffed conditions.
- Recycling bins overflow, and items end up in landfills.
- Management are asking custodians to work without training or proper classification to aid in recycling efforts.
- City College is out of compliance with zero-waste mandates and faces potential fines
- The plan was supported by past Trustees and the past Chancellor, David Martin, but implementation stalled and eventually stopped
WHY?
- A staffing plan was approved by the Board over three years ago: 10 new recycling positions in two phases. The second phase was supposed to be implemented in 2024.
- So far, only ONE has been hired.
- A hiring freeze was implemented without union notice by Interim Chancellor Bailey.
- Delays caused hires to fall through
We, the community, demand that the Board take immediate action to clean up our campuses and fulfill its commitment.
