Solano County workers ratify new contract
SEIU 1021 members win gains to support workforce stability, public services, and community needs
After months of negotiations and collective action, SEIU Local 1021 Solano County workers have ratified a new contract, marking an important step toward stabilizing the workforce and protecting the services our communities rely on.
Solano County workers stood together across unions in the Solano for All coalition to demand better from the county’s elected leaders and management. Earlier this year, the coalition executed a two-day coalition strike, pushing the County to move off low initial proposals and bargain in good faith.
Highlights of the new contract include:
- Wage increases and equity adjustments
- Maintained healthcare coverage
- Stronger workplace protections and health & safety language
- Improvements that support recruitment and retention
These gains help ensure experienced workers can stay in public service—and that Solano County can recruit the workforce needed to meet growing demands, including the region’s mental health crisis.
“The work we do is about helping families and supporting our community,” said Simone Arnett, a child support specialist. ”Public service is something many of us chose because we care deeply about the people who live here. Having a contract that moves us toward competitive wages helps make sure the County can retain experienced workers and attract new ones so we can continue providing the services Solano County residents rely on.”
Other county unions in the Solano for All coalition remain at the bargaining table. SEIU 1021 stands in solidarity with all coalition partners still negotiating and will continue to support their fight for strong contracts.
