SEIU 1021 partners up with food banks for the holidays
The holidays are a time to rejoice with friends and
family. But the pressure to come together to break bread and
share a warm meal can also serve as a reminder of the harsh
economic times people face as they struggle to put food on the
table. Combatting food insecurity is one of the core values for
our members at SEIU 1021.
As we fight for good contracts for the employees we
represent, we cannot forget about our neighbors who may not have
the same access and privilege to advocate for themselves in the
workplace or find themselves without a job altogether. That is
why we have banded together to support them this holiday season
by donating $20,000 to several food banks in Northern California.
We hope these funds will be an extra boost they need
to carry out the good work.
SEIU 1021 thanks these local food bank volunteers and
employees for their hard work in making sure that people
don’t go hungry and have access to food and the right to dignity
no matter what hardships they face. As we all gather to celebrate
this season, please consider volunteering at a food bank near
you. Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy holiday season and
new year.
Warm regards,
SEIU 1021 President Theresa Rutherford
