SEIU 1021 Members Take Action to Defend Workers’ Rights and Public Services in Solano County
SEIU Local 1021 members in Solano County are taking decisive action to demand fairness, accountability, and respect at the bargaining table.

Article

On Tuesday, January 13 and Wednesday, January 14, SEIU 1021 members will join colleagues from IFPTE Local 21, Operating Engineers Local 39, and the Union of American Physicians & Dentists (UAPD) in a two-day unfair labor practice strike in response to Solano County’s failure to bargain in good faith.

This action comes after months of negotiations in which County management has refused to meaningfully address core issues impacting workers’ rights and the public services our members provide.

Why SEIU 1021 Is Taking This Stand

SEIU 1021 members are proud public servants who deliver essential services across Solano County — including public health, mental health, social services, libraries, and infrastructure. Our members show up every day to serve the community, often under increasingly difficult conditions.

But Solano County has allowed chronic understaffing, uncompetitive wages, and rising healthcare costs to undermine both workers and the services residents rely on. These conditions drive experienced workers out, worsen vacancies, and place unsustainable pressure on those who remain.

When employers refuse to address these realities, SEIU 1021 will not hesitate to take action to defend our members’ rights.

The Cost of Inaction Falls on the Community

Understaffing and high turnover do not exist in a vacuum. They lead to:

  • Delayed mental health and social services
  • Increased caseloads and burnout
  • Reduced continuity of care
  • Higher risk for vulnerable residents
  • Seniors, children, people with disabilities, and low-income families are often the first to feel the impact when public services are stretched beyond capacity.

SEIU 1021 members are fighting not only for fair treatment at work, but for a public service system that functions effectively and equitably for everyone.

SEIU 1021 Will Continue to Fight

SEIU 1021 has a long history of standing up to protect workers’ rights and public services. Our members are ready to bargain in good faith — but we will not accept delays, disrespect, or contracts that fail to meet the needs of workers or the communities we serve.

This strike is a necessary step to hold Solano County accountable and secure a fair agreement that supports safe staffing, fair pay, and accessible healthcare.

When workers stand together, we win.
When unions fight, communities benefit.
