Wednesday, January 7, SEIU 1021 members at Superior Court of Marin County rallied at lunchtime, calling out unjust short staffing. Chronic understaffing has caused families to be separated for far too long and people to be held in jail without the speedy trials they’re guaranteed.

Alex Urton, an SEIU 1021 member and courtroom clerk for the court in the family law division, said, ”We assist with dissolutions, child custody, and visitation. For folks who are non-lawyers, we help people get divorced and gain child custody and visitation. Regardless of what side you’re on or what you’re here for, if it’s criminal, if a loved one has passed away and you need to deal with a will—we are definitely the bridge between the public and the court system. We are important employees. We help people at the worst times of their life. We need a fair contract now.”
