SEIU 1021 members celebrate 2025’s victories, kick off new year at unity party
Hundreds of SEIU 1021 members working for the city and county of San Francisco as well as courts, schools, community colleges, and nonprofits based in SF gathered at Public Works nightclub on Friday, January 16, to celebrate 2025’s victories and to kick off 2026 together.
“We’ve gone through some hard times, last year was hard. We know we’re going to face some challenges. But part of resistance is celebrating,” said SEIU 1021 President Theresa Rutherford. “That’s how you take on the challenges—by maintaining joy in your heart, in everything that you do, so that you have the strength to fight.”
SEIU 1021 San Francisco Vice President Kristin Hardy invited members in attendance to the celebration of putting the Overpaid CEO Act on the June ballot in San Francisco. “We have gathered signatures and we’re having a celebration because we reached our mark to get the signatures needed to get it on the ballot. We’re going to celebrate that win. A lot of you volunteered for that. We’re going to make them pay their fair share—they’re not going to balance the budget on our backs. We’re going to be celebrating at SF General Hospital on Wednesday the 21st at noon.”
VP Kristin Hardy also presented certificates to SF chapters with over 90% membership density. Members and guests danced the night away. Assemblymember Matt Haney and Supervisor Connie Chan also made appearances and spoke in support of SEIU 1021.
