SEIU Local 1021 north central (Region A) members and their families gathered Saturday, August 1, at Laurel Creek Park in Fairfield for the Region A Unity Event, enjoying an afternoon of food, music, games, softball and fellowship.

The event brought together members from worksites across the north central region, which includes Solano, Napa, and Sacramento Counties, for a day focused on strengthening relationships outside the workplace. Families enjoyed good food, music, a bounce house, games, a raffle, and other activities while children played and members connected with coworkers from across the region.

For Simone Arnett, the gathering was about strengthening the bonds that unite members across Region A. “It’s important for members to see each other in person and meet people from different areas throughout the region,” Arnett said. “It unifies everyone and shows that we really are a union family.”

SEIU 1021 Executive Board member Tazamisha Alexander said the event reminded members that the union is about more than negotiations. “Unity is important because we get to come together, have fun, and even talk a little politics. People get to see that the union is about more than just contract fights. We have fun together too—and it brings the babies out!”

SEIU 1021 unity events help strengthen solidarity beyond the bargaining table by giving members and their families opportunities to connect, build relationships and celebrate the power of standing together. As members returned home after an afternoon of laughter, conversation and community, the message of the day was clear: a stronger union is built not only through collective action on the job, but also through the relationships members build with one another outside of work.
