Lateefah Simon to address the 2024 SEIU 1021 convention
New details announced about the upcoming member convention!
This weekend, over 600 SEIU 1021 members will be gathering in Sacramento for an exciting, empowering convention. We’re coming together to rally and strategize for our biggest challenges ahead: a critical election in the coming months and the ambitious priorities we’ll be fighting for over the next three years.
Among the strategizing, workshops, and entertainment at the convention, speakers include SEIU International Executive Vice President Joseph Bryant, Assemblymember Liz Ortega, and Dr. Bill Fletcher.
EVP Joseph Bryan, the former president of SEIU 1021, will be speaking to the possibilities ahead for our union.
A former union political director, Assemblymember Liz Ortega will be speaking to the importance of politics to the labor movement.
Dr. Bill Fletcher will be speaking to the moment of crisis we found ourselves in and how we may build solidarity amongst the chaos.
Also very exciting during our convention — current Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Director and U.S. Congress D12 candidate Lateefah Simon will give a motivating speech. As Kamala Harris’s former boss at the San Francisco District Attorney’s office, Simon knows how deep Harris’s convictions, compassion, and competence run. Simon will ask the convention attendees to help reach out to voters in the crucial state of Nevada right there at the convention to help elect Kamala Harris as President!
SEIU 1021 Vice President of Organizing Brandon Dawkins remarked: “I am so excited for this jam-packed, exhilarating convention. Not only do we have a truly remarkable line-up of speakers, but even more importantly, we have one another and the solidarity we continue to build.”
