Fairfield workers stand united for a fair contract

Article

City of Fairfield workers showed up strong on May 15 and again on May 21 for lunchtime tabling actions outside City Hall, demanding a fair contract.

Despite months of bargaining, the City continues to push harmful concessions—including 0% wage increases for two years, quadrupled health premiums, cuts to sick and personal leave, and the elimination of a paid holiday. While they’ve dropped one proposal, the rest remain unchanged.

SEIU 1021’s bargaining team is fighting back with proposals to improve longevity pay, holiday pay, and deferred compensation, as well as to fix loopholes in contract language. They’re also pushing to raise underpaid workers to market median wages based on a recent comp and class study—with changes proposed to be retroactive to January 2025.

“We’re at this action today to get the word out to our membership, and I think it’s more important to have the face-to-face interaction rather than a faceless email,” said Ron Bremer, public works area representative. “And we’ll be back next week to continue and to provide updates to our members!”

Fairfield workers are staying informed, united, and ready to fight for the contract they deserve.
