COPE Committee Hosts Fun and Engaging BINGO Night to Build Power
Region A’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) recently brought members together for a spirited BINGO night, where fun and activism went hand in hand. Members from across the region came out to connect, enjoy a lively evening, and learn more about how their participation in COPE helps strengthen our union’s political power. “It was a lot of fun and a great way to inspire activism, educate members on COPE, and highlight upcoming political campaigns like Yes on 50,” said Tazamisha Alexander, COPE Chair.
COPE is how SEIU 1021 members build grassroots power to elect champions for working people and push forward legislation that benefits our communities. By contributing to COPE, members ensure we have the resources needed to defend our jobs, wages, and benefits, and to advance pro-worker campaigns at the ballot box. This year, one of our biggest priorities is Proposition 50.
“Proposition 50 is critical for the state of California because it pushes back against a direct attack on our democracy. Every voice in our communities matters—vote by vote—and this current presidential administration is making an attempt to silence those voices. We must focus on Prop 50 and vote YES to protect our democratic values. California plays a vital role in shaping the direction of this country, and this is how we change the tide for democracy in the U.S.” said Elizabeth Harrison, Regional Vice President and Adult Protective Services Social Worker for Solano County.
