The first of a series of Continuing Education Unit courses, or CEUs, was hosted in San Joaquin county last week. SEIU 1021 Executive Board member and board leader and San Joaquin County Vice President Taffie Walter helped select the two courses for Pysch Techs and LVNs in the region. The trainer was selected through Project Heartbeat which is committed to keeping students up-to-date in an ever-changing medical field.

The group completed two courses: Trauma-Informed Care in Behavioral Health Settings and Substance Use, Withdrawal & Dual Diagnosis. Members will receive 8-Continuing Education (CE) credits for their CE requirements for licensures and certifications as well as ongoing skill development for course completion.

“The program was wonderful, I’ve worked in behavioral health for over twenty years so any time I can learn something new and add tools to my toolbox it’s great,” said SEIU 1021 San Joaquin County Vice President Taffie Walter. “You think you know everything but this instructor was phenomenal and brought a fresh perspective.”

The CEUs were made available to members through a nursing grant funded by the California Workforce Development Board (CWDB) and working with the Education Fund to ensure members were informed about career development opportunities hosted by SEIU 1021. 

The next CEU course will be this coming Thursday, July 23 from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. in San Francisco for our SF and Alameda Counties CNAs and PCAs. Lunch will be provided for those who registered. Registration is now closed, but walk-ins are welcome! A reminder that there there will be a professional photographer on behalf of the EdFund on that day. This is a fully paid, 8-CE credit course.  An instructor will go over the following topics: Understanding Pain and Stress Management and Time Management.
