A ‘bat signal’ calls on SF to vote yes on Prop D
The Vote Yes on Prop D campaign took our message to the San
Francisco skyline on Thursday, May 28. Supporters gathered
at night in front of the PG&E substation on Folsom
Street and projected a light display calling on voters
to protect vital city services by voting yes on Prop D.
The display called out the corporations and CEOs who are spending
millions of dollars trying to stop the proposition from
passing—including PG&E.
Proposition D would require the largest corporations doing
business in San Francisco - those with over a billion
dollars in revenue and CEOs earning more than 100 times their
median worker - to pay their fair share. The
measure is projected to generate $300 million annually to protect
health care, homeless services, and other programs facing cuts
from both the city’s budget deficit and federal reductions to
Medicaid and SNAP.
Brittany Hewett, a registered nurse at San Francisco General Hospital and SEIU 1021 shop steward, addressed the public: “Every day we are stretched thin, doing the impossible with the little we have. But with Trump’s tax cuts, things are about to get a whole lot worse. These corporations are throwing down millions to defeat Prop D. They’d rather see public services slashed than pay their taxes. That is why we are here tonight shining this bright light on the side of a PG&E Building – a bat signal if you will – calling on every one of you to cast your vote by June 2nd to make sure corporations of San Francisco pay their fair share by voting YES ON PROP D.”
