SF Phone Bank to Save Medicaid
Join us every Tuesday & Thursday from 6-8:15 p.m.
Medicaid is on life support. With Republicans in Congress working to pass a tax bill that would cut as much as $800 billion in Medicaid funding to states, time is running out to protect the millions of people (including 40% of Californians) who rely on Medicaid for their healthcare — as well as the jobs funded directly and indirectly through Medicaid.
Join us Tuesdays and Thursdays at the SF union hall (350 Rhode Island St., SF) from 6-8:15 p.m. to call voters in swing districts and connect them directly with their member of Congress.
Why?
- Medi-Cal and Medicare are our safety net: 40% of Californians, including many SEIU 1021 members and their families, rely on Medi-Cal/Medicare for health coverage. When we defend it, we’re defending ourselves.
- This is a direct attack on working people: These $880 billion in cuts are being made to pay for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, while our communities are left without care.
- We know the consequences first-hand: As public sector workers, we see the results of budget cuts: longer wait times, fewer services, burned-out staff. Cutting Medicaid and Medicare will worsen all of this.
- The threat is real and immediate: Congress is moving fast. If we don’t mobilize now, we may not get another chance to stop these cuts before they become law.
- It’s not just about healthcare—it’s about jobs: Cuts to Medicaid and Medicare mean fewer jobs in healthcare, fewer resources for county hospitals, and less funding for city services. These cuts ripple across the public sector.
- This is a fight for dignity: Our union stands for dignity on the job and dignity in retirement. That includes the right to healthcare, especially for seniors and people with disabilities.
- Your 2 hours = hundreds of voters reached: Every call matters. You’ll be reaching Californians in swing districts and connecting them directly to their member of Congress.
Dinner will be provided with RSVP. Please RSVP here.
