SEIU 1021

WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR THE CITY TO MAKE US AN OFFER?
Richmond Bargaining Update: June 24, 2020

Post

Our contract expires on June 30, and our elected Bargaining Team has met with the City’s representatives twice, but they still have not made us an offer!

With less than a week before City Council must by law pass a balanced budget, we have yet to receive any written proposal from the City of Richmond’s negotiating team.

It’s not just us, either: the City has not even met with our labor allies in IFPTE Local 21!

These are difficult times, and we came to the bargaining table in good faith. We offered to extend our contract to help the City face the COVID-19 pandemic without distraction, but they rejected this idea.

For months, SEIU 1021 has worked tirelessly in coalition with other labor unions, including Contra Costa Labor Council, AFL-CIO, IFPTE Local 21, RPOA, RPMA, and IAFF Local 188, to help the City solve its budgeting problems. Our members have joined car caravans and spoken up at City Council meetings, and yet we still do not have a single formal proposal from the city. What are they waiting for?
