SEIU Local 1021, Along with the Napa-Solano Central Labor Council, Withdraws Its Endorsement of Hakeem Brown for Vallejo Mayor
Vallejo, California – SEIU Local 1021 formally withdraws its endorsement of Hakeem Brown for mayor of Vallejo. The decision to withdraw the endorsement was made democratically by union members after a meeting with the candidate following media reports about the candidate’s history of domestic violence.
One of the members of the Committee on Political Education for the union, Sarah Creighton-Kirley, an eligibility benefit specialist II for Solano County, and a Vallejo resident, said, “This decision was difficult and painful, because Hakeem Brown shares so many of the values important to the members of SEIU 1021, and we know he loves Vallejo. However, we can not continue to support his campaign for mayor, because we have not seen him take full accountability for the harm he has caused. We expect better from our elected officials, and we demand better from our leaders.”
