If You’re a TPT Who Gets a Release or Layoff Notice, Contact Your Steward, Field Rep, or Chapter Officer IMMEDIATELY
We're Fighting Back Against the City

Post

As some of you know, the City has been sending “release” notices to some of our temporary part-time (TPT) co-workers. These notices are illegal:

  1. The City did not give notice to the union
  2. The City has not met and conferred with the union about these changes
  3. The City has not demonstrated a financial need to release our workers
  4. The City did not even give us a simple list of workers or positions they intend to cut

It’s not just illegal, it’s unacceptable, and we’re not going to accept it.  We are using every tool at our disposal to put a stop to these layoffs,” says Oakland Chapter President Felipe Cuevas. On Friday we sent a cease and desist letter to management, demanding they rescind the notices and immediately meet with us. So far the City has only responded that they received our demand. If you get one of the release notices, or if you know someone who does, contact your union steward, field representative, or chapter officer immediately.
