ELECTIONS AND CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: CHIEF STEWARD

Nominations for Chief Steward will be accepted Monday June 24th, 2019 through 5 pm July 8th, 2019. The Chief Steward shall serve a two-year term and be a voting member of the Chapter Executive Board.

ELIGIBILITY:  
Chief Steward:  The Chief Steward shall serve as a resource for shop stewards in carrying out their duties at the worksite.  To qualify for election, the Chief Steward must have been registered with the County as a Steward for a year, and must have attended Steward Training provided by the Union. All persons shall be dues paying members, an employee within a bargaining unit represented by the Chapter, and a member of Local 1021 for one (1) year prior to the election. 


VOTERS: The Chief Steward is nominated and elected by the SEIU 1021 Stewards of the County of Sonoma Chapter.  The election committee has set June 21st as the qualification period for stewards to participate in this election. Any issues of eligibility will be reviewed by the election committee and a determination shall be made no later than July 2, 2019. Stewards are encouraged to check with the Member Resource Center at 877-687-1021and verify their correct home address prior to July 2, 2019. Candidates shall have access to the list of Stewards names and work location only.  


NOMINATIONS:  for Chief Steward shall be in the form of a nominating petition which shall be signed by five (5) Stewards from the chapter of Sonoma County. Nomination forms may be mailed to Attn: Election Committee, SEIU 1021 600 B. Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95401; faxed to SEIU 1021 707-542-1496 or dropped off in person and must be received no later than 5pm on July 8th , 2019. Nominees must submit written notice of acceptance of nomination within 7 days by 5pm on July 15th, 2019.  


VOTERS GUIDE: Nominees in contested elections will be allowed to submit a 100 word statement and photo to be included in the Voter’s Guide. The statement is due Thursday July 18th 3, 2019 by 5pm. Voter’s Guide to be released Monday, July 22nd, 2019.   

  •     Nominees will be listed in alphabetical order, according to last name
  •     Each nominee-submitted statement has been limited to 100 words. All statements will end at 100 words.
  •     Statements will not be edited for content, grammar or spelling.

ELECTION: If necessary a secret mail-in ballot election will be scheduled the period of July 22nd 2019 through August  2nd, 2019. Ballots will be mailed to stewards no later than July 22nd 2019. Ballots must be received to the SEIU 1021  Office at 600 B. Street by 2pm, Friday, August 2nd, 2019. Replacement ballots can be requested in person at the SEIU   office located at 600 B. Street. Ballots may be dropped off at the 600 B. Street office between the hours of 8:30am – 11:30am and 1pm – 4:30pm during the election period or mailed to the 600 B Street office. The election committee shall  begin the vote count at 2pm on August 2nd, 2019. Ballots received after 2pm shall be deemed invalid. Members are invited and encouraged to observe.  


**Challenges to or disputes arising from a Chapter election must be submitted in writing to the Chapter Election Committee within three (3) working days of the submission of the committee’s written election report to the Chapter Executive Board.  The committee shall respond within five (5) working days of the receipt of the challenge. Challenges or disputes which are denied or cannot be resolved by the Chapter Election Committee may be appealed in writing to the Local 1021 Chapter Executive Board within five (5) working days of receipt of the Chapter Election Committee’s decision. The Local 1021 Chapter Executive Board shall investigate and respond within fifteen (15) working days of receipt of the challenge. Challenges to the election will be considered valid only if they cite specific violations of the Chapter election rules and procedures, Chapter bylaws, or the Local 1021 Constitution and if the alleged violation may have affected the outcome of the election.
