SEIU 1021

Bargaining Update for Week of April 19, 2021
SEIU Local 1021 City of Hayward Chapter

Post

Your elected Bargaining Team is working together to help us win a strong new contract. As part of that fight, a number of chapter leaders spoke before City Council, urging them to use the 30 million dollars from the American Recovery Plan Act to invest in the community and make furloughed City workers whole.

The City’s administration presented a framework that included dollars for childcare leave, essential pay for frontline workers and preventing future furloughs, but did not honor the work our members have done during the pandemic or address the losses we experienced from furloughs. After our statements, Council members said that they would support making employees whole for losses incurred by furloughs and back pay of essential pay.

The City Administration committed to incorporating Council suggestions and present the revised plan at the next City Council meeting. We will need members at this meeting to hold Council and the Administration accountable: contact Saad.Muhammad@seiu1021.org to get involved!
