Once again, La Clínica is trying to balance its budget on our backs!
They are ramming layoffs down our throats without giving our union the opportunity to discuss options and / or alternatives to layoffs.
It is about 20 union positions that management claims they need to eliminate, but they’ve indicated that there could be a second round of layoffs in the near future.
We attended the La Clínica Board of Directors meeting on Monday, June 15th to bring this issue to their attention and to ask the board to instruct HR Director Ron Weigelt, to go back to the table of negotiations as soon as possible since the deadline for La Cínica to move forward with the layoff is fast approaching; June 30th.
Our union has filed a grievance against management for failing to follow the language in our contract around layoffs. Furthermore, SEIU is looking into filing a ULP (Unfair Labor Practice) against La Clínica for failing to engage in the meet and confer process.
On the one hand, La Clínica claims that they’re entering the next fiscal year in a budget shortfall of millions of dollars, but on the other, they’re spending funds on lavish farewell parties for Jane Garcia and investing money on acquiring the property at the new La Clínica Dental Union City site. La Clínica does not need to do these layoffs right now as its finances show that they have a surplus and the fund cuts from the federal government will not happen until July of 2027.
STRONGER TOGETHER!
