The City of Oakland Is Asking You for a LOT
And None of It Is Good!
The elected Bargaining Team has met regularly with the City’s representatives, and, so far, all the City is doing is crying poverty and asking us to give back things we fought hard to win.
They want us to start paying more for medical benefits immediately, with more costs coming in 2027. They want to cut takehome pay by 1% to fund pensions.
They want to change the overtime rules so that no matter how much you work in a day, you only get OT if you work more than 40 hours a week. They want to eliminate acting pay before serving 10 days into the assignment. They want to STOP sick leave sell-backs, and take away our ability to choose between comp time and OT.
They also want to GUT CIVIL SERVICE RULES to let them hire external candidates over internal ones. They want to eliminate redeployment, making us all at risk if layoffs come.
Plus, they have zero updates about our COLA trigger at the table, and have rejected or ignored every proposal we have made to improve wages, benefits, and working conditions.
