Bargaining update #6
Wednesday, April 8, 2026
Your bargaining team met with San Joaquin County today for a brief discussion around the total compensation survey. We asked why nine benchmarks had insufficient data, which would mean that 88 classifications would be left out of equities. The County said we can expect a response regarding the ideas they have for those classifications before the next bargaining session. We signed off on language for all contracts that deal with an affiliation or merger of any department with an outside entity.
The County returned a list of our proposals they have no interest in. One of them was Section 3.4.1, for Juneteenth to be a recognized holiday. The team is not happy with this and will be developing plans to get the County to reconsider. Other proposals that the County rejected are:
- Section 3: Leaves from employment increasing vacation accrual
- Section 3.4 Paying an employee vacation time when off for their full shift (not having to use your own hour(s) to make your check whole)
- Section 5.6 Double time after 12 hours worked
- Section 2.3.1 Shifting of insurance premiums
- Section 2.4.1 Insurance premiums for part-time family members
As well as our proposals on:
- Getting one day off after working 7 consecutive days
- Not recording investigation meetings
- A supplement for probation department clerical workers who go through an enhanced background process
- To dispute an unsatisfactory evaluation.
Even though the County has rejected these proposals, the union is not withdrawing them at this time. Please be on the lookout for communications regarding what the plan of action is for the rejection of the Juneteenth Holiday.
