SEIU 1021

Bargaining / Layoff Update

Article

Timing of Notices

AHS informed the union of the following timeline:

  • Paid leave notices will be sent out on 12/23, and overnighted to arrive 12/24
  • Layoff notices will be delivered on Christmas Eve

SEIU met with AHS today from 9 a.m. to -1:30 p.m. The employer arrived with no proposals and instead asked the Union to provide cost-saving measures.

We proposed the following:

  •  Move the layoff date to 6/30/2026, and
  •  Require AHS to follow the contract.
  • SEIU proposed many cost effective ideas acknowledged by AHS (denied)

What members need to know:

  • SEIU 1021 has commenced filing ULPs (Unfair Labor Practice charges)
  • SEIU 1021 will take action and we will plan actions for our members. Details to come: stay tuned!
  • SEIU is doing everything possible

AHS refused. They stated they prefer to wait for their property leases to expire rather than break the leases—even though that is less cost-effective. Refused to look at other properties for cost effective measures.

When asked about how appointments and patient care will be handled in the meantime, AHS admitted they do not have a plan. They claimed department leaders have one, but SEIU has already spoken with those leaders, and they also confirmed no plan exists to protect our patients or community.

This is clear evidence of bargaining in bad faith.

Paid Leave / WARN ACT

AHS stated they intend to place SOME employees on paid leave, but:

  •  They did not bring a list of who will be placed on leave despite SEIU requesting it. AHS is moving forward how they please
  •  Employees in programs being shut down will not be placed on leave because AHS said doing so would require County approval
  •  They directed us to a supposed “support webpage” for impacted employees, but they were not prepared to present it

AHS continues to claim they have the right to place employees on leave under the WARN Act.

We plan to take action, stay tuned for more details.
