Wear Your Purple Wednesday, June 30 To Support Your Bargaining Team
Bargaining Update for June 22, 2021
Dear Co-Workers:
We are actively negotiating on your behalf as your elected Bargaining Team. We held a very telling session with the City last week.
Currently, we have reached 6 tentative agreements (these will be voted on by all full members in order to become final) with the City. There have been more than 30 proposals shared at the table.
This past weekend, we commemorated Juneteenth—but the fight for racial justice is far from over
President Joe Biden signed a measure into law last Thursday establishing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day, a day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The day is also sometimes called “Juneteenth Independence Day,” “Freedom Day” or “Emancipation Day.” It’s the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was created in 1983.
SEIU 1021 Members in the City of Oakland Speak Up for a Budget That Works for All Oaklanders
As Oakland’s City Council continues to work towards passing a balanced budget, SEIU 1021 members and other members of the community keep the pressure on. The City’s Refund Coalition, a group that includes SEIU 1021 and other labor organizations along with many community groups, has been tireless in its advocacy for a budget that prioritizes the things Oaklanders really care about: investing in housing as a human right; public safety and public services; protections for frontline workers; and arts and culture funding.
It’s TIME!
For a Strong Contract, We Need Unity and Full Participation
Your elected bargaining team is united and fighting for every member of your union. But we can’t do it without you!
We need rank and file members to call in to City Council meetings on Tuesday nights to share their stories. As a union, our strength comes from our numbers, and we need to show Council and the Mayor that our numbers are strong and our members—not just our Bargaining Team—are united.
Celebrate PRIDE Month with the SEIU 1021 Lavender Committee
As we approach the end of PRIDE month, we want to highlight an amazing list of local PRIDE events SEIU 1021 Lavender Solidarity Committee Co-Chairs Sally Buchmann and Eileen Berkun put together for our LGBTQ+ members and supporters.
Santa Clara University Adjuncts and Lecturers are calling for a free and fair union election on campus
This past Friday, June 11th, Santa Clara University Adjuncts and
Lecturers set up a table at the graduation commencement ceremony
on campus to raise awareness for their need to unionize and have
a voice in the workplace. In addition to passing out fliers to
grads and their families urging support, the adjuncts and
lecturers had live screenprinting to make promotional posters to
hand out.
