Next Tuesday, December 19, SEIU 1021, SEIU 2015 and Oakland Mayor
Sheng Thao will be giving away literally thousands of coats and
toys to local kids who might otherwise not have much under the
tree this year.
But we’ve got a problem: More families than expected have signed
up for the giveaway, and we need more coats. We are still 500
coats short. We need your help to make sure local kids
stay warm this winter!
Members celebrate 2023 victories at North Coast Unity Event
Thursday, December 7, camaraderie and celebration filled the air as more than 100 SEIU 1021 members in Region B gathered in Santa Rosa for a much-anticipated North Coast Unity Party. While festive, this event was not only a party, but a vibrant testament to the strength and solidarity of our union.
Labor for peace in Palestine: SEIU 1021 member leaders hold teach-in
Thursday, December 7, SEIU 1021 and Jobs With Justice SF came together to host an online teach-in titled “Labor for Peace in Palestine.” This teach-in occurred almost exactly a month after the SEIU 1021 Executive Board issued a statement endorsing the “Ceasefire Now” movement — a statement calling for all armed conflict to cease in Israel and Palestine.
SEIU 1021 Executive Board Statement Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza
Monday, November 6, the SEIU 1021 Executive Board held an urgent meeting after hearing concerns from dozens of members across Northern California about the need for the union to join labor unions and organizations around the world about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Executive Board members discussed the situation at length and decided to issue the following statement as a first step.

SEIU 1021 members and community partners kicked off our annual Toy and Coat Drive in Oakland last Friday, December 1st. The kickoff event featured members and staff singing holiday carols and included two school buses decorated as two oversized reindeer. The buses will be filled with donated toys and coats for kids in our community.
2023 East Bay Unity Party Recap
The East Bay Unity event held at the Oakland Airport Hilton last Friday was a night to remember for SEIU 1021 members and their guests. The evening was filled with laughter, joy, and unity as members won prizes from a raffle before they hit the dance floor. SEIU 1021 members enjoyed a delightful dinner and delicious drinks and posed for memorable snapshots at the photo booth. Members brought brand-new, unwrapped toys and coats to donate to children in need.

At the break of dawn last Wednesday, November 15, SEIU 1021 members and staff were already convening downtown with other local unions and community organizations, preparing to take over the intersection of Mission and 5th Street in San Francisco.
As they reached the intersection, they fanned out, linked arms, and formed chains around the intersection, which was a main entrance to the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.
Classified workers at Vacaville Unified School District continue to show up, speak out

On Thursday, November 16, over 60 classified Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD) staff members again attended the Board of Trustees meeting to voice their ongoing concerns and frustrations with the District. This follows the November 2 action, where at least 60 members supported each other and shared their frustration with the lack of progress in bargaining due to the District’s ongoing refusal to raise wages above the bare minimum.
