SF Registered Nurses win huge arbitration victory restoring bilingual pay

Earlier this year, our union filed for arbitration over management’s decision to begin withholding bilingual pay for nurses. Management stopped administering the test for bilingual pay, and refused to continue to give bilingual pay from nurses who had already been approved.

CalPERS Election: Interview with Candidate Jose Luis Pacheco

The race for the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration is on. One of the candidates running for a seat on the Board of Administration is Jose Luis Pacheco, an IT professional for the San Jose Evergreen Community College District. Pacheco also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the member-owned Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union. Additionally, Pacheco sits on the Board of Directors for Latinas Contra Cancer, a non-profit that addresses Breast Cancer health disparities in the Latina community.

City of Berkeley CSU and PTRLA Workers Win a Strong, Fair Contract

City of Berkeley workers in the Community Services and Part-Time Recreation Leaders Association chapter tried a bold new strategy for negotiating their new contract, and used it to build unity and win a good contract, comparable to their SEIU 1021 siblings in Clerical and Maintenance. The strategy is called “open bargaining,” and it seeks to involve every member throughout the fight for a contract.
