Three months ago, SEIU 1021 members joined a 9-union coalition to
negotiate with Contra Costa County and put an end to runaway
healthcare costs. The campaign used strength in numbers to win a
new contract with guarantees for a fairer healthcare
cost-share with the County, increased wages for the next three
years, a seat at the table with the County and health plan
providers to keep premium increases in check, and much more.
Don’t miss the lineup of inspiring speakers and workshops at our upcoming member convention in Concord, CA on Sept 22-23. All SEIU 1021 members are invited. Register here by the August 20th deadline.
Advocating for Justice in Our Courts
This spring court workers flooded the halls of our state capital to advocate for those seeking justice.
As court workers and advocates for our communities, we know access to justice is directly tied to income. In the trial court system, when court reporters are not provided, only the wealthy can afford to hire a reporter. Low-income workers, juggling multiple jobs, are unable access justice due to restricted public hours and closed facilities. People who cannot afford money bail often sit awaiting a court date resulting in a loss of income to their household.
Bringing more than ten months of bargaining to a close, the Oakland City workers represented by SEIU Local 1021 ratified a two-year contract with the City of Oakland on Friday, February 23.
With provisions that increase worker safety, provide cost of living adjustments, and address the working conditions of police and fire communications dispatchers, the contract takes steps to improve public services to Oakland residents and businesses.
