It’s that time of year! Join your fellow San Francisco region SEIU 1021 members for food, drinks, music and dancing, raffles, awards, and gift bags with the coolest SEIU 1021 swag (supplies are limited–first come, first served). 

When: Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, 6-10 p.m.
Where: Hilton Union Square, 333 O’Farrell St.

Members may bring one guest — please indicate below if you plan to bring a guest, as attendance is capped at 400.

Higher education members read at first-ever SEIU 1021 Lit Crawl event, “Unionized Words”

Saturday, October 21, marked a first for our union: a special reading by SEIU 1021 members working in higher education at the annual San Francisco Lit Crawl. Elizabeth Travelslight and Hugh Behm-Steinberg of California College of the Arts (CCA) and Robert Moses and Bobby Bradford of Dominican University read their writings at “Unionized Words” at Sour Cherry Comics.

California College of the Arts students walk out in protest of staff layoffs
The CCA Student Union organized the walkout and blackout in support of the CCA Staff Union

A year ago, staff at California College of the Arts (CCA) went on a four-day strike in protest of the administration’s illegal labor practices, pushing for a first contract that took over two years (and that strike) to secure. Last month, CCA administration announced their intention to lay off 8-10% of frontline staff in response to lower than expected enrollment – even as they continue to pay their president, Stephen Beal, over $580,000 – more than any other private university president in the Bay Area with the exception of Stanford.
