Napa County workers speak out on staffing crisis at board of supervisors meeting
The County currently has a 20% vacancy rate that is decimating service delivery and fueling burnout

Dozens of Napa County workers gathered at the administration building this morning to speak out at the Napa County Board of Supervisors meeting about how understaffing in critical departments is hurting residents. Workers called on the county elected officials to commit to filling the hundreds of vacancies that are already budgeted for while using the county’s budget surplus to expand public services and invest in good-paying, permanent, county jobs that serve our residents.

Mendocino County Workers Rally at Board of Supervisors Meeting to Demand Action on Staffing Crisis

Overworked child protective service workers are unable to follow up on reports of abuse and neglect in a timely manner. Public works employees are unable to keep up with important infrastructural work like filling potholes. Eligibility workers are too short-staffed to keep pace with the volume of applications for food stamps and other safety-net services desperately needed in a county with a poverty rate of over 14%. These are the costs to the residents of Mendocino County of the County’s staffing crisis.

It's Time to Change That

Our Union Coalition Bargaining Team, representing 9 Unions and 6000 + County employees, met with the County management team the morning of Friday May 13th. The County’s negotiators continue to keep an outrageous proposal on the table, a “poison pill” proposal that will take money away from our general wage increases if we bargain over anything economic at our local union bargaining table. The County only moved 1% in wage increases in the last year of the contract from 3% to 4%. They did offer a one-time $2,000.00 pandemic relief payment, but it was unclear who would receive it.

After meeting twice with County management as part of our union coalition, the County has not yet offered an acceptable economic proposal. To solve our staffing crisis, and to be fair to our dedicated County workers, we must receive a wage proposal that puts us well ahead of skyrocketing inflation and keeps us competitive with other Bay Area employers!

Notification of Nominations for Alameda County Bargaining Team

Greetings from the 2022 Alameda County Bargaining Team Election Committee!  We are pleased to announce the nomination period for our 2022 Alameda County Bargaining Team begins May 6th and will run for 30 days until June 5th.  This nomination process marks the commencement steps for negotiations, where members will nominate other members or themselves into positions to represent them at the bargaining table.

In Alameda County, Management Says “Heroes Work Here” but They Aren’t Acting Like It

On Tuesday, April 26, hundreds of SEIU 1021 members from across Alameda County rallied outside a closed session of the Board of Supervisors to call for the sacrifices of members to be honored. The pandemic has led to an increased need for the vital services that frontline workers provide. Whether we’re called “public servants,” “disaster workers,” or “heroes,” it’s clear that we deserve recognition and that the County must invest in and reward its dedicated workforce.
