Alameda County members win a new contract after long fight
On Wednesday, April 26, Alameda County workers made it official and voted to ratify their new contract, with 95% YES votes. This followed a lengthy bargaining campaign that started in July of 2022 with the election of a bargaining team and featured near-constant countywide actions, from rallies and marches and unity breaks to petitions, packing the Board of Supervisors meetings to make public comment, and spreading their message with billboards and bus ads.
California College of the Arts students walk out in protest of staff layoffs
The CCA Student Union organized the walkout and blackout in support of the CCA Staff Union
A year ago, staff at California College of the Arts (CCA) went on a four-day strike in protest of the administration’s illegal labor practices, pushing for a first contract that took over two years (and that strike) to secure. Last month, CCA administration announced their intention to lay off 8-10% of frontline staff in response to lower than expected enrollment – even as they continue to pay their president, Stephen Beal, over $580,000 – more than any other private university president in the Bay Area with the exception of Stanford.

The elected Bargaining Team has reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) for our contract re-opener on the classification and compensation study. Our Bargaining Team recommends a ‘YES’ vote. The vote schedule is below.
TA Summary
There will be a 4% raise effective the pay period which includes July 1, 2023. The raise is for both full-time and part-time units.
This is in addition to the raises in the contract which are 5% January 1, 2023, 4% January 1, 2024, and 4% effective January 1, 2025.
The Votes Are In! With More than 95% Voting YES, WE HAVE RATIFIED OUR TENTATIVE AGREEMENT!
On Wednesday, April 26, after a week of countywide voting, SEIU 1021 members and staff counted the votes: members voted overwhelmingly to ratify our Tentative Agreement!
Because of our members’ solidarity and willingness to show up and speak up across the county, we were able to win this strong new contract.
Sonoma County members ratify new contract with big gains

SEIU 1021 civil service members raise awareness of workplace health and safety concerns at the de Young Museum
Last Saturday, April 15, SEIU Local 1021 civil service members at the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, came out to raise awareness about the health and safety of both museum workers and patrons alike. Among the significant concerns are the safety and health of security staff, the front-facing workers responsible for securing a safe space for all in the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
