Our SF Registered Nurse team has reached a tentative agreement!
At 7:30 AM and after 22 hours of mediation, our Registered Nurse bargaining team signed a Tentative Agreement (TA) for a new RN contract with the City and County of San Francisco. The TA includes progress on many of the priorities identified by members and your elected bargaining team: recruitment and retention of nurses, chronic understaffing, safety, and over-reliance on temps and travelers.
Our tentative agreement includes:

Union Update
Port Management Unprepared for Arbitration
The Port communicated to SEIU that they wanted to settle
outstanding grievances before they go before an arbitrator. We
meet with the Port on June 6, 2022, with the intention of
settlement. As a union, we were prepared!
SEIU 1021 Fights For Higher Wages and Safer Workplace Conditions, While the City Refuses to Budge
City of Oakland management countered our wage proposal with 3% per year for three years, which doesn’t even keep up with the rising cost of living. Our proposal on wages would keep up with the cost of living and help workers stay in the Bay Area.
Management rejected our proposal to increase the annual dental cap even though it hasn’t increased since 2002.
While doing nothing to combat favoritism in hiring, management maintains its proposals to gut civil service rules and merit hiring.
As Bargaining Begins, the City Proposes Big Takeaways
The elected Bargaining Team has met several times with the City, passing 12 proposals to the City’s 7. On Wednesday, May 4, the City gave a presentation about their budget.

OUSD members of SEIU 1021 go to Sacramento to advocate for 2 critical education bills
AB 1912 and 1614 would protect schools from predatory loans and closures that disproportionately harm communities of color
Members of SEIU 1021’s Oakland Unified School District chapter headed to Sacramento last Tuesday, May 17, along with members of Oakland Education Association, community allies, and union members from other school districts, including Vallejo, Inglewood, and South Monterey County. They had a very specific mission: advocating for state assemblymembers to support Assembly Bills 1912 and 1614.
“Where will our patients go?” Members vow to do everything possible to save Laguna Honda Hospital
Laguna Honda Hospital is San Francisco’s primary long-term care facility. The hospital provides San Franciscans with a complete continuum of care, including skilled nursing, rehabilitation, AIDS care, dementia services, hospice and acute care, as well as an adult day health care center and a senior nutrition program. It’s a remarkably unique facility, unlike virtually any other long-term care facility in the United States.
We’ve ratified our MTA Service Critical agreement!
Last week, SEIU 1021 members working for the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency voted overwhelmingly by 96% to ratify our next contract.
Along with City & County workers, who ratified their new agreement the week before, we won a 10% wage increase through a months-long #StaffUpSF campaign in partnership with other city unions. This new agreement includes significant progress on the priorities identified by members and will help recruit and retain staff to make our public services strong.
We’re going to fight like hell to save Laguna Honda Hospital
Recently, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), who provide the vast majority of our funding, have conducted site visits and an investigation into a number of on-site infractions. As a result, the hospital is required to implement a Closure and Patient Transfer and Relocation Plan while we all continue to work towards recertification.
