Oakland Teachers Ratify a Contract and End Historic 7-Day Strike

On Sunday, March 3rd, members of Oakland Educators Association (OEA) voted to approve a contract that gets teachers on the path to better raises and smaller class sizes. The contract ratification ended a 7-day strike that united the community.

Teachers, classified workers, and students continue to speak out against the District’s cuts to programs and staff. Hundreds of students, joined by community allies, filled the Board meeting on March 4th.

Income inequality hurts all of us but attacks on the public services and programs that we provide hurt women disproportionately. Women are still 35 percent more likely than men to be in poverty in America.

In honor of International Women’s Day, join us in a march and rally to urge Mayor London Breed and our Board of Supervisors to do the right thing: strengthen our city’s poverty and homelessness prevention programs, prioritize services to women and families, and negotiate a fair contract with workers.

Members Make the Case for Salary Adjustments

Members representing 33 classifications made Salary Adjustment presentations to the County to demonstrate the need for salary adjustments.

This is the largest number of presentations for salary adjustments in any contract year. While there is no guarantee any classification that presented will receive a salary adjustment, the presentations created an opportunity for consideration by the County for salary adjustments if a contract extension agreement is reached and ratified.

Per SEIU 1021 Contra Costa County Service Line Supervisors Chapter Bylaws, notice is hereby given of an election for Chapter Officers.

 

All Chapter Officers shall serve two-year terms.  The term of office for these officers shall end March 31, 2021.  The member running for office must have been a member in good standing for at least one (1) year and be employed within a bargaining unit represented by the Chapter.
