SEIU Local 1021 was founded in 2007 when ten local unions came together in Northern California to form one larger, more powerful union. Together our members are building a true 21st-century union fighting to empower our members and improve our society. We are over 60,000 strong, organizing and representing public service workers in cities, counties, courts, schools, private non-profits, special districts, public health care, nursing, and higher education. We are looking for energetic, hard-working staff who are committed to real change, who believe in the value of work and the value of public services, and who want to be part of the team that wins for workers, their families, and their communities.

Holiday message from President Theresa Rutherford

Two words summarize 2023 best: worker power.

In the Midwest, 150,000 auto workers went on strike for several months, leading to historic contract gains and inspiring non-union autoworkers to organize. In the South, the labor movement has found new life as service workers across multiple industries have united with the Union of Southern Service Workers to raise the South’s minimum wage. Across the nation, more than 9,000 Starbucks employees have unionized at more than 380 Starbucks stores.

San Francisco 2024 Citywide Campaign Kickoff – Jan. 17
Join us at City Hall at noon on Jan. 17 to send a strong message that we are united for a great contract to address the City's biggest needs, including staffing & privatization

As we head into contract negotiations in 2024, we face pessimistic budget projections and corporations panhandling for more tax breaks that would further decimate funding for the vital public services we provide.

We need to join together in a show of force to tell City Hall we’ll fight for what the city and its workers need over corporate greed!

Please join us at noon on Jan. 17, 2024, at City Hall for a huge campaign kickoff rally with our City labor partners and allies.
