Mendocino County Workers Ratify One-Year Contract with Plans to Hold County Accountable for Improved Process & Information Flow for Future Agreements
The new contract, which was approved by over 90% of voting members, includes a 2% cost-of-living adjustment and a one-time $3000 ARPA stipend, as well as larger improvements for certain severely understaffed classifications
SEIU Local 1021 members working for Mendocino County voted by over 90% last week to approve a new one-year contract with the County after almost nine months of contentious negotiations, during which county administration and the Board of Supervisors claimed repeatedly not to know or understand what was available to them in the budget.
Airport workers across America speak up for better working conditions
From the beginning of the pandemic, airport workers have paid a huge price as rates of air travel fell and their jobs became more difficult, stressful, and precarious. As Jo’Ell Thomspon, a long-time airport custodian at Oakland’s airport, has said: “We are cleaning contaminated areas, where people who are known to be infected have been, but we’re understaffed and unable to keep the airport properly cleaned.

Beginning as a rank-and-file member leader from San Francisco’s Human Services Agency, Sin Yee Poon never lost sight of who mattered the most: The membership.
Is Alameda County Serious?
After two months of bargaining, they still aren’t listening to workers’ concerns.
SEIU 1021’s bargaining team has met more than a dozen times with Alameda County management, and only on Thursday, December 1, did the County bother to put any wages at all on the table, more than two months after we passed a wage proposal.
Their opening three-year wage offer is lower than the 8.6% nationwide Consumer Price Index for 2022.
Is the County serious with this proposal?
The rest of the County’s offers aren’t much better:

Help make our 2022 SEIU 1021 toy drive a success for Bay Area families
Join SEIU 1021, IFPTE Local 21, and nonprofit community partners
around Northern California in filling up a school bus (gracefully
loaned from Hayward Unified School District) with thousands of
toys for children in underserved communities. In the past five
years alone, the SEIU 1021 Toy Drive has successfully collected
and distributed more than 10,000 toys. Due to the effects of the
pandemic and inflation, we anticipate this year’s requests for
toys will be higher than ever, so please contribute if you’re
able.
2022 Mendocino County Tentative Agreement Highlights
Here's a summary of what we won in our tentative agreement. Ratification happening this week.
Our contract campaign was incredibly challenging considering the level of dysfunction and lack of basic understanding of the county’s finances in both the Mendocino County administration and the Board of Supervisors. In the interest of providing some immediate relief to current employees and preventing the staffing crisis from growing worse, our union bargaining team has reached a tentative agreement that addresses some of our concerns while providing the opportunity to make more progress next year by reopening the contract at the end of the 2022-23 fiscal year.
