SF healthcare workers fight back against workplace safety crisis
Long before COVID-19, members in the Department of Public Health were there for vulnerable patients in our community despite a lack of adequate staffing and other dangerous working conditions. In the last year, COVID-19 has blown those issues wide open and our city’s healthcare infrastructure is in crisis.
We’re now a full year into the worst global health emergency in over a century, yet management continues to woefully mismanage our response to this pandemic while long-term issues which impact patient care continue to persist.
Vote Amos Eaton for SCERA Trustee
SEIU 1021 member and localwide Treasurer Amos Eaton is running for a seat on the Sonoma County Employees’ Retirement Association (SCERA) Board.
The elected trustees of SCERA are responsible for the stewardship of our retirement security. It’s a tremendous responsibility and a role we need to fill with people who are going to speak up for the needs of current and future retirees.

3,000 workers at Alameda Health System Bargain for 14 Months, Strike for 5 Days, and Finally WIN a Tentative Agreement for a Four-Year Contract with a New CEO, New Trustees, and Many New Members
"The power we have is the power to stick together to fight for common goals."
An “…incredibly momentous settlement within truly unexpected conditions,” is how Alameda Health System (AHS) Chapter President John Pearson described the tentative agreement reached between SEIU 1021 members and AHS management last week. John, an Emergency Room nurse at Oakland’s Highland Hospital, summed up the long, hard contract campaign by saying, “We can win when we make a plan together and when we struggle together.”
CCA members, students, and workers take to the streets to save another Bay Area higher-ed art institution from collapse at the hands of big banks.
On Sunday, March 21, SEIU 1021 members from the staff and adjunct unions at CCA joined forces with CCA students supporters from the local art community to adorn the street steps away from the front door of First Republic Bank in SF with a dazzling yet poignant mural.
The street mural action is the latest step in an ongoing fight between CCA union members, the CCA administration, and the Board of Trustees over a string of reckless decisions that have burdened the institution with massive amounts of debt which is impacting students and workers alike.
A statement from SEIU 1021 Joseph Bryant Condemning Anti-Asian Racism and the Recent Targeted Shootings in Atlanta
“This week, our country saw yet another incident of violence against people of color, as a young man murdered 8 people in Atlanta, including six Asian women in their place of work. While the details of this violence are still coming into focus, make no mistake, these killings did not occur in a vacuum. They took place within the larger context of hatred and violence aimed at members of the API community occurring all across the United States.
SEIU 1021 members applaud the passage of the American Rescue Plan, which administers over $1 trillion dollars in aid
Last week, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan (ARP) into law, securing a historic $1.9 trillion dollars in funding which include direct funding to Americans, a national vaccine program to contain COVID-19, and relief funds to help out working families and get the economy back on track.
“We must work together to tackle anti-Asian racism in our communities and our workplaces,” says Yeon Park, SEIU 1021 VP of the East Bay
It has been heartbreaking to see the recent uptick in anti-Asian racism happening here in the Bay Area—and make no mistake, hate and racism are at the root of the violence we’ve seen in recent weeks.
