This Thursday, August 19, from 5:30 to 8:30, SEIU 1021 members in coalition with IFPTE Local 21 and Hayward Association of Management Employees (HAME) workers will join the City’s downtown party to celebrate the work they do and show the city that it’s time to honor that work and the workers who do it.

Oakland, California — SEIU Local 1021’s Alameda and Contra Costa Counties’ respective Committees On Political Education (COPE) have voted to support the Public Bank East Bay. 
 
SEIU Local 1021 represents nearly 60,000 working people across Northern California, from San Jose to the Oregon border, and is proud to announce their support of and collaboration with Friends of the Public Bank East Bay.

CalPERS Election: Interview with Candidate Jose Luis Pacheco

The race for the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration is on. One of the candidates running for a seat on the Board of Administration is Jose Luis Pacheco, an IT professional for the San Jose Evergreen Community College District. Pacheco also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the member-owned Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union. Additionally, Pacheco sits on the Board of Directors for Latinas Contra Cancer, a non-profit that addresses Breast Cancer health disparities in the Latina community.

These elections shall determine Chapter Board Officers and Bargaining Team members as follows:

Chapter Board Officers

The term of office shall be for two (2) years.

  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Chief Steward
  • COPE Coordinator

Bargaining Team  

The term of the appointment shall be for the duration of negotiation.

City of Berkeley CSU and PTRLA Workers Win a Strong, Fair Contract

SEIU 1021 members rally outside Berkeley's City Hall in their fight fora strong contract.

City of Berkeley workers in the Community Services and Part-Time Recreation Leaders Association chapter tried a bold new strategy for negotiating their new contract, and used it to build unity and win a good contract, comparable to their SEIU 1021 siblings in Clerical and Maintenance. The strategy is called “open bargaining,” and it seeks to involve every member throughout the fight for a contract.
