November 3 Endorsements
Make A Difference--Volunteer Now!
Now, just like in every election year, we need to elect candidates and pass measures that will protect those vital services and honor our work. But this year, the stakes are higher than they have ever been.
We understand the importance of winning the economic, racial, environmental, and immigrant justice that we all deserve. That is why we participate in the political process by volunteering and voting for these endorsements to help elect candidates and pass measures that bring us closer to that goal.
Make a difference: Volunteer Now!
It is Election Day! Volunteer to get the vote out locally, and in the battleground state of Nevada– where early voting numbers are lower than expected.
We are asking members to participate in phone banking and other outreach initiatives to help us elect candidates who will fight for us and pass measures that will benefit working families.

Alameda Health System is in crisis, and frontline workers are fighting to fix it
Alameda County must to put public health back in public hands
Beginning Oct. 7 at 6:30 AM until Oct. 12 at 7 AM, Alameda Health System workers represented by SEIU 1021 will partake in a five-day unfair labor practice (ULP) strike across Alameda Health System. We’re protesting the mismanagement and underfunding of care, which has resulted in the avoidable spread of COVID-19 among workers, unsafe and unsanitary conditions for patients and staff, and inhumane treatment of homeless patients in county behavioral health programs.
“I’m afraid of what will happen to our patients if we don’t strike.”
More Than 3,000 Healthcare Workers Vote to Strike and Deliver 10-Day Notice of Unfair Labor Practice Strike to Alameda Health System
Healthcare workers united in SEIU 1021 announce an unfair labor practice strike, issuing 10-day notice to Alameda Health System on September 26, with a press conference at 1221 Oak St. in Oakland.
At issue are unfair labor practices, understaffing, health and safety issues for the patients and workers, and an unelected, unaccountable management team that is not providing adequate patient care for the community.

Our Unfair Labor Practice Strike Will Begin

AHS Management’s Proposed Takeaways and Unfair Labor Practices
In our last bargaining session, last Tuesday the 15th, the General Unit was joined by observers from the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, Oakland City Council, and ACCE Action, a community group we often partner with.
At that session, AHS proposed a brand new takeaway to gut Appendix F in the GU contract. Appendix F provides career ladders for many classifications. AHS’ proposal would mean trapping new hires at the I level of their classification, and not letting them advance to II and get the corresponding raise.
Alameda Health System Members Say “Enough!” and Vote on Authorizing a Strike to Fix a Broken System and Protest Unfair Labor Practices
Alameda Health System is Alameda County’s safety-net public health system. It serves a mostly low-income community that is more than 70% Black and brown, and delivers more than 200,000 hours of patient care per year. As the COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged our communities, with more than 20,000 cases and 350 tragic deaths in the county so far, the system has been stretched to the limit.

Our 2020 Endorsements and Important Ballot Measures
This election is unlike any other. 1021 fights to make sure our
voices are heard at the ballot box so that we can win on policies
that benefit workers and our communities. This year, we have an
added obligation to vote for candidates who will protect workers
through a pandemic and for ballot measures that fund essential
services through this economic crisis.
It is our duty as union members to stand up for our fellow
workers and neighbors for workers’ justice. We do that by voting.
