For Head Start substitute teacher, Claudia Campbell, going back to school to get her degree seemed impossible:

That is until the SEIU Early Educator Training Center, SEIU Local 1021, and the YMCA of the East Bay joined together to create an apprenticeship program that supports and uplifts Early Childhood Educators.
City of Hayward Workers Speak Truth to Power
This evening City of Hayward workers spoke before City Council to demand that Hayward Administrators restore cuts made to workers’ pay and benefits. Hayward Administrators are refusing to restore the cuts that were made three years ago, even after a judge found their actions to be illegal.
“A 17% cut in take-home pay forced people to retire from jobs that they loved,’” said Gil Hesia, Senior Utility Leader and President of City of Hayward Maintenance Chapter. “Bargain with your workers fairly.”
Sonoma County Workers Fight for Fire Recovery for All
“County workers are struggling to survive here,” said Joel Evans-Fudem, who works in Sonoma County’s child protective services department and serves as the SEIU 1021 Sonoma County Chapter president. “The fires have affected us all, but that didn’t stop us from leaping into action to help during the disaster. It’s shameful that the County has not recognized that the workers responsible for helping people get back on their feet are struggling.”

The SEIU 1021 Convention will be held in Concord, CA September 22-23, 2018.
We are beginning the process of choosing convention delegates to represent chapters. Elections will take place through June 20th.
