Democracy in action: Make a plan to vote in the March 5 primary!
The March 5 primary is just around the corner, and it’s an important election for working people – especially for people like SEIU 1021’s public sector and publicly-funded nonprofit workers.
These elections will have significant impacts on the services our members provide and on the communities we serve. Particularly important is the statewide Proposition 1, which, if passed, will put six billion dollars a year into mental health programs and housing.

Tuesday, February 6, SEIU 1021 members who work for the San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) attended the monthly Health Commission meeting as DPH Chief Financial Officer Jenny Louie presented a budget proposal for fiscal years 24-25 and 25-26. To meet Mayor London Breed’s request for all City departments to cut their budgets by 10%, the budget proposal focuses on eliminating vacant positions and further contracting out.

Tuesday, January 30, Marin Housing Authority (MHA) employees, MHA residents, and Marin County taxpayers flooded the Board of Commissioners meeting. They successfully pushed the Board to postpone renewing its contract with Nan McKay, an incompetent subcontracting firm that has been replacing union jobs and terrorizing residents.

Over 500 SEIU 1021 members celebrate solidarity & wins at San Francisco unity event
Spirits were high last Friday, January 26, as roughly 550 SEIU 1021 members and their guests packed the elegant Continental Ballroom at the Hilton Union Square for the 2024 San Francisco unity event.
The annual party allowed members from San Francisco City and County’s many agencies, public hospitals, nonprofit organizations, museums, and public school and community college districts to mix and mingle.
