2020 was a difficult year, but SEIU 1021 members in San Francisco fought back—and we won
It’s no secret that 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. In a year that has often felt like it’s lasted a decade, it’s easy to lose sight of the many obstacles we’ve faced and overcome over the last 12 months (and the last nine in particular).
OUSD Chapter OSEA/OCDPA Chapter Elections
Dear SEIU Local 1021 Member,
This letter serves the purpose to inform you that the Oakland
Unified School District Chapter will be conducting Chapter
Officer Elections.
Here is the timeline for nominations and election of Chapter
Officers:
44 Years Strong – We Salute Henrietta Lee for Her Service and Dedication
44 years ago, Henrietta Lee started her journey working for the city of San Francisco as a Senior Clerk Typist at Youth Guidance Center and she has never looked back. Wearing many hats and serving thousands of community members over the years, Henrietta has carved a special place in the hearts of her colleagues and the youth she impacted.
Dominican University adjuncts secure massive settlement for workers during difficult times
SEIU 1021 members at Dominican University recently showcased the power of our union, as they were able to secure a settlement totaling around $750,000 for their members during recent negotiations.
Adjunct faculty at the university were negotiating their second contract as members of SEIU 1021, having joined our union in early 2015. Adjunct professors often have considerable less security than tenured, full-time faculty, making the power of a union essential in their fights for improved wages and benefits.
Marin Municipal Water District workers secure a new contract
This month, our members at Marin Municipal Water District overwhelmingly ratified our next contract. Workers were able to secure this agreement because of our strong membership numbers and because we speak with one voice as a union in our political engagement with elected leaders and also with managers at our worksite.
We won’t be fooled by the so-called “Freedom” Foundation—we’re sticking with our union
An extreme, anti-worker organization deceptively titled the Freedom Foundation (who often go by OptOutToday) is sending misleading messages to our members in an attempt to weaken our union. Shamefully, they are using the holidays as cover to attack our collective strength at work.
“San Joaquin County deserved better than Monica Nino and so does Contra Costa County”
SEIU 1021 Members Speak Out Against Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors’ Choice of Monica Nino as Chief Administrative Officer, After Her Long Track Record of Union-Busting and Anti-Working-People Actions
In Contra Costa County, SEIU 1021 members demanded that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors rescind their decision to hire current San Joaquin County County Administrator Monica Nino as the new Chief Administrative Officer. The members were joined by a coalition of union workers representing some 8,000 workers, as they spoke out at the Board of Supervisors meeting last Tuesday, December 8.
