In recent years, labor unions in the United States have been experiencing a resurgence in popularity and support. Two significant developments highlight this trend: the soaring approval ratings for labor unions, reaching their highest point since 1965, and the growing support from Generation Z, the newest generation entering the workforce.

OAKLAND, CA – On September 12th, the SEIU 1021 Bargaining Team of Asian Health Services (AHS) reached a tentative agreement with management to settle on a new three-year contract. After eight months of bargaining, rolling pickets, a 100% ‘yes’ strike vote, strike school with a nearly 70% attendance, and the hard work of the bargaining team and committed members, workers have won their strongest contract with AHS to date.

Roughly 13,000 auto workers walked off the job Friday in a historic stand-up strike against the Detroit Big Three – General Motors, Stellantis, and Ford. United Auto Workers (UAW) members have come together under the leadership of union president Shawn Fain to present a list of game-changing demands.

Whether we’re at home or work, all of us need to deal with our changing climate. This year, we’ve had a hot, dry summer, floods, fires, and even hurricane-strength storms hitting Los Angeles. It’s time for union action!

As union members, we’ve seen the power we have to make changes at our workplaces, and we’ve felt the impact we can make politically. At the SEIU Climate Summit, we’ll build the skills and connections we’ll need for our 200,000 SEIU members across California to take decisive action to protect ourselves and the environment we all inhabit.
