Why did we vote to strike?
We have been bargaining for a year and the District has failed and refused to bargain in good faith by making unilateral changes to conditions of employment, unlawfully delaying negotiations, interfering with union activities of members, and other unlawful tactics.The District has rejected most of our proposals for pay parity with the City, longevity steps for SNS, layoff protections, and affordable housing for SFUSD employees and continues to make errors in our paychecks.

September 29, 2023, marked the end of an era with the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein. A trailblazer for women, she was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the first woman mayor of San Francisco before becoming the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from California. As a U.S. Senator, she was the first woman member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the first woman to chair the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and the first woman to chair the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Urgent action required: Urge Governor Newsom to sign SB 525 today!
Healthcare workers need your immediate help: getting Governor Newsom to sign SB 525. This bill holds the potential to bring significant improvements to the lives of California’s workers, including many of our own members.
SB 525 would set a minimum hourly wage of $25 for healthcare workers, recognizing the dedication of our healthcare heroes and addressing the pressing need for equitable wages as living costs continue to rise and the healthcare field continues to suffer from short staffing.

Hundreds of SEIU 1021 members and their guests flooded Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland last Friday, October 6, for SEIU 1021’s first-ever Latino Heritage Celebration in honor of Latino Heritage Month. Organized by the newly formed SEIU 1021 Latino Caucus, it was a memorable evening of culture, food, music, performances, dancing, solidarity, and fun.
SEIU 1021 members at SFUSD vote by 99.5% to authorize strike
On Saturday, Sept. 30, and Tuesday, October 3, SEIU 1021 members working for San Francisco Unified School District voted to authorize their bargaining team to call a strike. A resounding 99.5% voted yes.
