North Coast members showcase our union power through unity breaks

Up and down the North Coast this past month, SEIU 1021 members have used Unity Breaks to demonstrate that we’re united in our union and ready to fight for our communities. Hundreds of members have participated in unity breaks from Chapters including Mendocino County, City of Fort Bragg, the Sonoma County Office of Education, Mendocino College, and more.

Members at Horizons secure a new contract with 3% wage increases and the continuation of their telecommuting stipend

Congratulations to SEIU 1021 members at Horizons in San Francisco on reaching a Tentative Agreement with management on their next contract!

These members provide critical services to Latino and other youth of color and their families. They are program coordinators, substance abuse counselors, and more who provide addiction, mental health, employment services, and other crucial services to community members in need.

DoorDash Drivers Demand Dignity – Interview with a We Drive Progress food-delivery worker

Deemed essential workers, delivery drivers working for DoorDash have faced unfair and exploitative working conditions throughout the pandemic. Workers are expected to make several deliveries at once for low pay – two deliveries, requiring four separate stops at restaurants and individuals’ homes often pay as little as $12-$15 with no compensation for gas money, parking, or vehicle upkeep. DoorDash delivery drivers are ruled by ratings from their customers, how many deliveries they accept, and how many deliveries are completed.

Caring about CalPERS: An interview with SEIU Local 1021 Retirement Security Committee Chair Cynthia Landry

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) manages pension and health care benefits for slightly over two million California public employees, retirees, and their families. Nearly one-third of CalPERS members are retirees receiving a monthly allowance from the pension and health care benefits system.

Cynthia Landry, the chair of the SEIU Local 1021 Retirement Security Committee, speaks about the importance of CalPERS, particularly on the diversity of its governing Board of Administration, and supporting labor:
